Which LANGUAGECERT Exam Should I Take?
Quick Answer
If you only have 10 seconds:
I need English for my career or CV
→ Start with LANGUAGECERT LTE 4 Skills
I need a specific B2, C1 or C2 certificate
→ Start with LANGUAGECERT International ESOL
I need an academic English test for university
→ Compare International ESOL and LANGUAGECERT Academic
I need English for a UK visa
→ Go to LANGUAGECERT SELT
I want to study in Poland
→ Start with International ESOL B2 Communicator, then compare LTE 4 Skills and Academic
Not sure whether your English is B1, B2 or C1?
That is exactly when LTE can be particularly useful.

Do not just say your English is “good”. Prove what level it is.
Your CV probably has a line for languages.
But:
English – good
English – communicative
English – fluent
does not tell an employer very much.
A certified result such as:
English – CEFR B2
or:
English – CEFR C1
is much clearer.
And if your qualification includes a verifiable digital credential, you can show it on your CV and LinkedIn instead of simply asking recruiters to believe your self-assessment.
Our first choice for career and work: LANGUAGECERT LTE 4 Skills
ONE TEST. YOUR REAL ENGLISH LEVEL.
LANGUAGECERT Test of English – LTE 4 Skills – is designed for professional and workplace-related English.
You do not choose B1, B2 or C1 before the exam.
Everyone takes a multilevel assessment and your performance determines the CEFR level you achieve:
A1 → A2 → B1 → B2 → C1 → C2
That makes LTE especially useful if you are thinking:
“My English is probably around B2, but I am not completely sure.”
With LTE, you do not have to guess.
The exam measures:
Listening + Reading + Writing + Speaking
and gives you a result that shows the level you actually demonstrated.
Why LTE 4 Skills makes sense for your career
Professional English
LTE was designed for professional purposes and uses English connected with real-life work and communication.
All four skills
You prove that you can understand, read, write and speak English – not only answer grammar questions.
A1-C2 in one multilevel test
You do not have to select your level before taking the exam.
Online testing
LTE can be taken online with secure remote live invigilation.
Fast results
LTE 4 Skills Online results and certification are normally available within 3 business days.
Digital Badge
Your LANGUAGECERT Digital Badge can be added to your LinkedIn profile, CV, email signature and digital documents.
Why certification can matter when you start your career
Recruitment is becoming increasingly skills-focused.
LinkedIn reported in 2025 that, globally, recruiter searches were filtered by skills much more often than by academic degree.
Your degree tells an employer what you studied.
Your experience tells them where you worked.
A recognised English qualification can add something different:
evidence of the English level you have actually demonstrated.
And your LANGUAGECERT Digital Badge gives you a simple way to make that evidence visible online.
So instead of:
English – very good
you can write:
English – CEFR C1 | LANGUAGECERT LTE 4 Skills
That is shorter, clearer and easier to understand internationally.
Want a simpler first step?
Try LTE Listening & Reading
Not everybody needs a complete four-skills qualification immediately.
If you simply want to:
- measure your current English,
- get your first formal English result,
- benchmark yourself for work,
- check whether you are closer to B1, B2 or C1,
- or start building your professional profile,
LTE Listening & Reading A1-C2 can be an excellent first step.
The online/computer-based test normally takes approximately 60-90 minutes and measures your level across the A1-C2 scale.
Later, if you want a more complete professional credential, move to LTE 4 Skills.
Important
If you need an English certificate for a purpose that specifically requires all four skills – including the relevant Study in Poland B2 route – Listening & Reading alone is not enough.
For that purpose, choose LTE 4 Skills.
LTE vs TOEIC, Linguaskill Business or Versant?
If you are free to choose your workplace English exam, look at what you actually get.
TOEIC, Linguaskill Business and Versant are well-known names in professional English assessment.
If your goal is:
career + CV + LinkedIn + four skills + CEFR result + online testing
then LANGUAGECERT LTE 4 Skills is a particularly strong option to consider.
LTE gives an individual candidate a very direct route:
Take one multilevel assessment → demonstrate your level → receive your CEFR result → receive your credential → add it to your professional profile.
It covers the full A1-C2 range and can assess all four skills in one online administration.
For comparison, TOEIC commonly uses Listening & Reading and Speaking & Writing as separate test products, while Linguaskill Business uses a modular structure.
If nobody has specifically required TOEIC, Linguaskill, Versant or another particular exam, compare the formats before automatically choosing the brand you already know.
The better question is not:
“Which English exam is most famous?”
Ask:
“Which recognised exam gives me the most useful proof of English for what I want to do next?”
For many students, graduates and young professionals, LTE deserves to be near the top of that list.

Need English for university?
Start with two LANGUAGECERT options:
1. LANGUAGECERT International ESOL
2. LANGUAGECERT Academic
Both can be used for university and international study purposes where the receiving institution accepts the relevant qualification.
The important rule is simple:
Check recognition before you book.
LANGUAGECERT reports recognition of its English examinations across thousands of institutions internationally, but every university can set its own requirements concerning:
exam type + level or score + skills + delivery mode
OPTION 1 – INTERNATIONAL ESOL
Choose International ESOL if you want a specific level such as B2, C1 or C2.
Unlike a multilevel test, International ESOL allows you to select the CEFR qualification you want to achieve before taking the exam.
For many students the most important options are:
B2 Communicator
A strong choice when your university asks for B2 English.
C1 Expert
For candidates who need to demonstrate an advanced level of English.
C2 Mastery
The highest CEFR level.
A complete four-skills International ESOL qualification covers:
Listening + Reading + Writing + Speaking
The Written and Speaking components can also be taken separately.
International ESOL can be taken online from home with remote live proctoring.
Thinking about Cambridge, IELTS or TOEFL?
Considering Cambridge B2 First?
→ Compare it with LANGUAGECERT International ESOL B2 Communicator
Considering Cambridge C1 Advanced?
→ Compare it with LANGUAGECERT International ESOL C1 Expert
Considering IELTS or TOEFL for university?
→ Check whether your university accepts International ESOL or LANGUAGECERT Academic
You do not automatically need IELTS or TOEFL simply because those are the exam names you know.
First find out which qualifications your university accepts.
Then choose the accepted format that suits you best.
OPTION 2 – LANGUAGECERT ACADEMIC
Choose Academic if you want a university-focused multilevel test.
LANGUAGECERT Academic is designed specifically for higher education.
It tests:
Listening + Reading + Writing + Speaking
and reports performance from:
B1 → B2 → C1 → C2
You do not select B2 or C1 before the exam.
Your performance determines your result.
The exam uses the type of English you are likely to encounter at university:
- lectures
- academic discussions
- academic reading
- essays
- reports
- presentations
That makes Academic particularly suitable if you want an alternative to tests such as:
IELTS Academic
TOEFL iBT
PTE Academic
where LANGUAGECERT Academic is accepted for your intended purpose.
Academic is also available online with remote live proctoring for eligible uses.
ESOL OR ACADEMIC?
Still not sure?
Choose INTERNATIONAL ESOL if:
You already know: “I need B2.” or “I want an official C1 qualification.”
International ESOL is a fixed-level qualification.
You choose the target level before taking the exam.
Choose ACADEMIC if:
You want an exam focused specifically on university English and prefer a multilevel B1-C2 result.
You take one exam and your performance determines the level you achieve.
Very simple rule:
Exact CEFR target → ESOL
Academic multilevel assessment → Academic
And always check that your university accepts the exact qualification before booking.

Need English for a UK visa?
Do not automatically book standard International ESOL, LTE or standard LANGUAGECERT Academic.
If your UK immigration route requires a Secure English Language Test – SELT, you need the correct LANGUAGECERT SELT product.
The test you need depends on your visa route.
Family / settlement / citizenship
→ usually LANGUAGECERT International ESOL SELT Speaking & Listening at the required A1, A2 or B1 level
Work visa routes
→ usually LANGUAGECERT General SELT where a four-skills SELT is required
Student visa
→ LANGUAGECERT Academic SELT where a SELT is required
Important
LANGUAGECERT SELT exams are not taken from home.
You register online, but the examination itself is taken at an approved LANGUAGECERT SELT Test Centre.
Visa rules can change, so always confirm your exact route before booking.

Planning to study in English in Poland?
Polish regulations effective from 1 August 2025 list qualifying LANGUAGECERT examinations that can be used as B2-or-higher English evidence for candidates covered by the statutory admission rules.
The relevant LANGUAGECERT options include:
- LANGUAGECERT International ESOL – B2 or higher, four skills
- LANGUAGECERT LTE 4 Skills – B2 or higher
- LANGUAGECERT Academic – B2 or higher
If you already know that you need B2, International ESOL B2 Communicator is a very clear starting point.
If you are not completely sure whether your current level is B1, B2 or C1, LTE 4 Skills can be particularly attractive because it is multilevel.
LANGUAGECERT Academic provides another four-skills route with an academic focus.
Study in Poland rules depend on your admission situation, education documents and university requirements, so read the dedicated guide before booking.
